The incredible sketches of Nigerian artist, Kelvin Okafor
Kelvin creates each piece only in black and white, using graphite pencils, charcoal, and black coloured pencil. He's exhibited at numerous major art galleries and won several national awards for his remarkable work. His work is currently on display at the The Watercolours + Works on Paper Fair at the London Science Museum, until February 3.
Kelvin writes on his blog:
'I aspire to create art as vivid as eyes could see. I want my drawings to prompt an emotional response, making viewers feel as though they are looking at a real live subject. I’ve always been creative, but fell in love with using pencils in particular.
It amazed me, that with only one shade of lead, you can create so many tones and textures, and almost create the illusion of colour. It was only when my images started to create a buzz with other Middlesex University students that I realised their impact.'See more of his sketches after the cut...
How Nicki Minaj Almost Got Arrested in Dubai
Nicki Minaj was at the Jimmy Kimmel Live show and disclosed how she almost had herself arrested in Dubia for hugging a police officer
“I went to Dubai. I almost got in so much trouble because the guys in Dubai are so cute. It’s not even funny. One of the rules [is] you can’t hug a man if you’re not married to the man. And so when we were leaving, there was this one guy that was so freaking cute, I was like, ‘Bye!’ because I just wanted to have this one last moment to…savor the moment with him…”
Train crash injures 300
A train collision in South Africa Thursday that injured about 300 people was likely caused by cable theft, police said.
The collision happened near Pretoria when a passenger train ran into a stationary train from behind on the same track, the South African website News 24 reported.
"The metal was torn and crumpled from the force of the two trains colliding," said Vanessa Jackson, a spokeswoman for ER24, South African's emergency medical service.
About 300 people were injured, two of whom were in critical condition and 10 in serious condition.
"After approximately two and a half hours on scene, it appears that most of the more seriously injured patients have been removed to hospital and only those that have sustained relatively minor injuries in the incident will be transported shortly," Jackson said.
Investigators said the collision was caused by theft of various cables for the copper they contain.
"It's time we recognize cable theft as attempted murder. People could have died today," Metrorail said at a press conference.
