Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Elected Alternate President of OPEC

Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, has appointed Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke as alternate president effective January 1, 2014.

Alison-Madueke, who is also head of Nigeria's delegation to OPEC, was elected at the 164th meeting of the OPEC Conference held in Vienna, Austria, late last week, under the chairmanship of its president, Mustafa Jassim Mohammad Al-Shamali, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil of the State of Kuwait and head of its delegation.



According to Opec.org, the conference also elected Dr. Abdel Bari Ali Al-Arousi, Minister of Oil and Gas of Libya, as president of the conference for one year, with effect from January 1, 2014, the same tenure as Alison-Madueke's.

"The conference elected HE Dr Abdel Bari Ali Al-Arousi, Minister of Oil and Gas of Libya, as president of the conference for one year, with effect from 1 January 2014, and HE Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, CON, Minister of Petroleum Resources of Nigeria and head of its delegation, as alternate president for the same period," said Opec.org.

The conference reviewed the oil market outlook as presented by the secretary general, in particular supply/demand projections for 2014.
