Guardiola to Succeed Heyneckes as Bayern Munich Coach

Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munchen, have announced that superstar coach, Josep "Pep" Guardiola will replace Jupp Heyneckes as coach of its senior team, from the 2013/2014 season.

Guardiola, who won a whooping total of 14 trophies with Barcelona during his four seasons in charge of Spanish club, FC Barcelona, signed a three-year contract to manage the club till 2016.

The German club, which currently leads in the Bundesliga standings, beat interest from other clubs including Champions League holders, Chelsea FC and Arab-powered moneybags, Manchester City to sign the revered Spaniard.

Goal.com quotes Bayern Munich CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, as saying in a statement that he was delighted to have captured Pep.

"We are very pleased that we have succeeded [in appointing] the football expert Pep Guardiola, who was courted by many famous clubs and contacts," said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can [help] not just Bayern, but German football, shine," he added.
