If i were to start, i would end up going on and on...but what the %^&* is she wearing? From the yellow clutch to the floral dress to the hideous coat and finally the hightop, she has just succeeded in looking like an expensive homeless person... And a blogger had the audacity to call her gorgeous.... Oh well, to each her own... Dunno whats with the Canvas these days, first it was Rita Domnic, now Uche... At least, RD still looked good in hers even if my friend @thesocialbee709 will disagree... BBC's Feature Story on Abuja: Nigeria's unfinished capital built on 'stolen' land

Old-style homes with straw roofs next to new building under construction in Abuja
When one of Nigeria's long line of military rulers, General Olusegun Obasanjo, seized the land on which Abuja was to be built in the late 1970s, he could hardly have imagined that the city would remain unfinished 35 years on.
Abuja has a makeshift, haphazard feel to it: A place of bureaucrats andbuilding sites, its streets eerily empty after the buzz of Lagos or the enterprising bustle of Kano.
It is one of the most expensive cities in Africa, and one of the most charmless.
The skyline is dominated by the space-rocket spires of the National Christian Centre and the golden dome of the National Mosque, facing each other pugnaciously across a busy highway at the city's centre.
Its other striking landmark is the vast construction site of the Millennium Tower, which, if it is ever completed, will be Nigeria's tallest building.
The skyscraper was intended to mark Abuja's 20th birthday in 2011. Now delayed until

Gongress Ends US Shutdown

President Obama makes a statement in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House in Washington.(AP photo)
The U.S. government reopened its doors Thursday after Congress passed legislation to end a government shutdown and - just in the nick of time - avert a U.S. debt default in a bipartisan deal that left Republicans little to show for the epic political drama that threatened to rattle the world economy. The Senate voted 81-18 to send the measure to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, which passed it late Wednesday night 285-144. President Barack Obama signed the measure - which adhered strictly to the terms he laid down when the twin crises erupted more than three weeks ago - shortly after midnight Thursday.

Congress had faced a deadline of 11:59 p.m. on Thursday to raise the government's borrowing authority or risk a default on its obligations.
The bill reopens the government through Jan. 15 and permits the Treasury to borrow normally through Feb. 7 or perhaps a month longer. It includes nothing for Republicans demanding to eradicate or scale back Obama's signature health care overhaul.
"We fought the good fight. We just didn't win," conceded House Speaker John Boehner as lawmakers lined up to vote on the bill.

Nigeria is to compete today, September 17, in the election into the non-permanent body of the United Nations Security Council as the sole contestant from West Africa.
Gambia had been the only challenger of Nigeria but it stood down having realised the strong support that Nigeria had received from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU) as well as some permanent and non-permanent members of the Council.
The election will hold this afternoon at the Security Council's Chambers inside the UN headquarters in New York.
Nigeria needs to poll the required votes to represent the West Africa on the Council for a period of

#Skelewu Fever: Behind The Scene Photos From Davido’s HOT New Skelewu Video

Like Davido’s Skelewu needs anymore attention than it has garnered in the last few months since its first release.  First, Davido created a frenzy via a competition by offering $3,000 USD to anyone who could create the best dance video to the song – which after many fun attempts by various people including  footballer Emmanuel Adebayor and Nigerian comedian AY, a winner was announced.  Davido shared an image of the winner of the Skelewu dance competition , Kiddy via instagram last week. On the 15th of October, an official Skelewu video was released which we later learnt from Davido via tiwtter and an official press release that the released video which was shot by Sesan was infact an online leak which he, Davido never signed off for public release as he later discovered he didn’t like the final edit.
On the 16th of October, just less than 24hrs after the leak of the unapproved video, Davido has shot a totally new video under the directorship of Moe Musa in London under the production of Pheonix Global Media.
What we are now expected to see is  an epic adventure that has never been seen before. Abi Wilson-Obruche of Pheonix Global Media said, “It was a pleasure working with Davido. Given the short period of time we had to put the video together, it was interesting working on an adventurous concept and HKN proved to be a excellent partner in delivering the video”.
Moe Musa and his team has pulled out all the stops to create a “28 Days Later” concept for the video to prove to the world that “Skelewu” has officially taken over.
The video is said to première worldwide on Monday.
Skelewu, the hottest Afrobeats song out right now is officially ready to take the world by storm. Are you ready?

Rebel Governors To Dump PDP For APC

http://img.naij.com/346x260c/business/politics/04/9/new_pdp_govs.jpg

The  ongoing efforts  to reconcile aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party members with the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee of the party, appear to have finally hit a brick wall.
A hint of this emerged when Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, told a visiting All Progressives Congress delegation  on Wednesday, that himself and  the six other aggrieved PDP governors, might dump the PDP for the  “warm embrace of the APC.”
The other aggrieved governors otherwise known as rebel governors are prominent members of the New PDP led by Alhaji Abubakar Baraje.
They are Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano); Rotimi  Amaechi (Rivers); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).
It was learnt on Wednesday that the National Vice-Chairman North-East of the  APC, Umar Duhu,  who led the delegation to the government residence in Yola, offered Nyako  a piece of kola nut and an invitation in accordance with the northern tradition.

United Kingdom Set To Send 267 Nigerian Prisoners Back Home

Go Home: United Kingdom Set To Send 267 Nigerian Prisoners Back Home
The UK is set to send non-British prisoners back to their respective countries, with more than 200 prisoners set to be sent back to Nigeria.
Punch reports that talks are continuing into reaching a compulsory prisoner transfer agreement, which could see more than half of the 534 criminals from Nigeria currently in UK jails repatriated.
UK Prisons Minister, Jeremy Wright, told MailOnline how ‘more foreign prisoners must serve their sentences in their own countries.’
Ministers have been ordered to step up efforts to end the scandal of more than one in eight prisoners being from overseas.
British Prime Minister, David Cameron vowed to end the practice of the British taxpayer picking up the bill for criminals with no business in the UK.
The Prime Minister said in 2010 that he would ‘personally intervene’ to send more foreign criminals home.
Britain has even made clear it would pay to build new prisons in countries like Nigeria to speed up the process of sending foreign criminals home. Up to £1m has been promised to upgrade Nigerian jails, including a new wing at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos.
But to date little progress has been made. When the coalition was formed there were 11,135 foreign prisoners in UK jails, and this figure has fallen by just three per cent since to 10,786.
Each felon costs an average of around £40,000 a year to keep inside.
