Amosun shuts down OOU over students’ protest

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Saturday ordered the closer of the state-owned university, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, following continued students' protest over school fees.

According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, government took the decision to forestall violence.

The statement added that the government is aware of another protest being planned by the students, which could also lead to violence, hence the need to close the school.

The state government had announced earlier the reduction of the tuition fee which should be implemented
next session, but the students said it was just propaganda and that if the government wants to reduce the fee, it should be implemented in the current session.

The students have continued to protest in the last few weeks over the high school fees.
