Jonathan Sacks Gulak, Political Adviser

President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday  terminated the appointment of his Special Adviser (Political), Alhaji Ahmed  Gulak, with immediate effect.
A terse statement issued by Jonathan's Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Dr. Reuben Abati, announced Gulak's removal from office. The president thanked  Gulak for his services to his administration and wished him success in his future endeavours.
According to the statement, a replacement for Gulak will be announced later.Although no reason was given for the sudden sack of Gulak, THISDAY learnt that his removal may be due to the face-off between him and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio. The former political adviser, according to findings, had recently single handedly inaugurated a group championing the re-election of Jonathan in Akwa Ibom State without the input of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the governor. The action of Gulak was seen by Akpabio and the state chapter of the party  as an attempt to cause division within the party's fold ahead of the 2015 elections. It was gathered that the governor, who is an ardent supporter of Jonathan, protested to the president, who was said to be miffed over the action, which may divide the party in the state. This, it was gathered, made the president to decide to relieve Gulak of his appointment.
Also, it was gathered that Gulak had been campaigning for the president's second term bid when Jonathan has not declared his decision to run.Jonathan, according to a source, felt embarrassed with the development and as such decided to relieve Gulak of his appointment. The source equally disclosed that the former political adviser had not been offering quality advice to the president, adding that the low quality advice of Gulak had presented Jonathan to the opposition as an aggressive politician and making the president to play into the hands of opposition.
The source added that after due consultations over Gulak's sins, couple with the fact that he has no electoral value even in his state, Jonathan was left with no other alternative than to sack him.Meanwhile, Adamawa State Governor, Alhaji  Murtala Nyako, has said the sudden sack of  Gulak was a pity,
The governor's Director of Press, Mr. Ahmed Sajoh, said in Yola that on hearing the news of the sack, Nyako felt very bad
Sajoh said it was painful when the sack of Gulak attracted  wild jubilations by the people of Gulak town in Madagali Local Government Area of  the state.
