Going by NCC directives, unregistered lines would be taken offline from the 1st of July 2013. In essence, what that means is that if your line has not been registered to your home network, service to your SIM would be withdrawn.
It is unclear whether you would be able to get your number back in the event that it gets disconnected by registering it back or if the line would be cut off completely.
Another unclear issue is how the networks intend to deal with partially registered lines (apparently, there are quite a bunch of those) with incomplete details.
So, if you still have an unregistered SIM that you would like to keep, or you aren't sure of the status of your registration, you should check with your service provider.
