No fewer than 100 students of Sokoto state origin will be sponsored by the state government to the Canadian University in Dubai for various degree programmes. This, the state has confirmed, will happen in no distant time.
This is contained in a statement by Malam Sani Umar, the Special Assistant to Gov. Aliyu Wamakko on media affairs.
The statement said "this is one of the fall-outs of Gov. Wamakko's one-week visit to Dubai.
"The officials of the university are expected in Sokoto in the next two weeks to finalise the agreements on the sponsorship of the students," it added.
It further stated that eligible candidates would be screened during the visit.
According to the statement, Gov. Wamakko also attended a 3-day International Conference on Arabic Language which took place between 7th and 10th May 2013 on the invitation of the Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid.
"All these are part of the untiring efforts of Gov. Wamakko to boost education in the state," the statement said
It would be recalled that 150 indigenes of the state on May 12, left Sokoto for Master's degree courses in Education Management at the International Islamic University, Mbale, Uganda.
DailyPost gathered from a reliable source that another set of 150 indigenes are billed to leave for the same university in September for first degree courses in various science field.
