KANO – Uneasy calm pervades the ancient city of Kano following a time bomb that exploded near Zoo Road, Wednesday morning.
The incident is coming on the heels of a failed attempt by a yet-to-be identified group to blow up a luxury bus along Zaria Road, by Kundila Housing Estate, yesterday night.
Security sources in the city confirmed there were no casualties in the two incidents, adding that troops have been deployed to the affected areas to restore "confidence and normalcy"
Vanguard learnt that the explosion at Zoo Road during rush hour Wednesday morning, was followed by sporadic gunshots as passersby ran for dear lives while residents remained indoors.
Isa Sale, a resident told Vanguard that he saw the troops with Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs , heading to the scene, adding that the area was immediately cordoned off.
When contacted, police spokesman, ASP Magaji Musa Majia said the command will issue a statement on the two incidents in due course.
"We are on top of the situation and there is no cause for alarm. We shall in due course issue a statement on the incidents."
