Onyeka Onwenu Denies Assaulting Woman

The National Centre for Women Development, Abuja has said its Director-General, Onyeka Onwenu, did not use her security personnel to assault a businesswoman, Mrs. Olajoke Adesipe.
A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, NCWD, Mrs. Etore Thomas, on Wednesday alleged that it was Adesipe who assaulted one of the centre’s security operatives.
Thomas said Adesipe also tore the uniform of another guard.

The centre said Adesipe had filed a suit in an FCT High Court, adding that it would await its outcome.

Thomas said, “The DG never directed anybody to assault Adesipe. It was Adesipe who assaulted and caused grievous bodily injury to one of the NCWD security men and tore the uniform of another one when they were escorting her out of the premises.”

The centre explained that Adesipe was never legally allocated the space she occupied at the auditorium, adding that Onwenu, actually directed that she should be formerly allocated a shop.
“She promised to move on or before February 13, 2014 as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was scheduled to attend a programme at the NCWD, it was going to be a security issue for her to remain at that location,” the statement added.
