When Wrong is Right... by @gillianmusic

I find myself lost in thought quite often and more than half that time I am thinking of what exactly is right or wrong. I am pretty sure most of us have these moments of conflict over if some of the things we have done are right or they are wrong.
In almost all of these cases, if we go by what our religion believes in or what we have been told our religion requires of us we find out that we are wrong. If you are like me then you would have a hard time living your life believing all of those things, that's not to say that they are wrong.
So I have decided to write this article about right and wrong based mainly off of our physical existence
whereby disregarding the spiritual requirements/believes placed upon us by our respective religion as I believe it would make a much more interesting topic than telling you that all we should all go by what we hear in our worship places.
First off, what is Right? According to the dictionary, right is
"in accordance with what is good, proper, or just"
Given the above definition, the first thing that springs to mind is "how do we know what is good, proper or just?"
Now, given that we are all from different ethnicities, its pretty safe to assume that at some point every ethnic group had their firm beliefs of what was right and wrong. Take for instance, in Nigeria at a certain point in the past it was considered right to kill 'twins'. How twisted is that?
I'll get straight to my point, I strongly believe that sometimes people are so blinded by their subconscious beliefs that they fail to think for themselves but rather follow in the preconceived public opinion which has been proven time and time again to be wrong at times.
Another example is the fact that two decades ago it would be considered abominable for a girl to wear anything that would expose more than her legs from the knee down but now due to civilization (regardless of if it is bad or good) it is being regarded as a normal thing.
I am a firm believer that if the act that you are engaged in, or the kind of life that you live does not adversely affect anyone other than yourself then you are free to do that, just as long as it not against the law.
For instance, most people believe having sex with different people outside wedlock is wrong, but why do we think so? Is it really wrong if it is agreed to?
We all judge prostitutes and strippers for selling their bodies in one way or the other, but is that really worse than soldiers who kill defenseless people or in some cases other soldiers?
We slate female musicians for exposing themselves in their music videos or during their performances cos we believe they are selling sex, but is that really worse than you who takes semi nude pictures of yourself and post on the internet? At least these people do it because that is their source of livelihood without which theyd probably have nothing. And most of us do not take into account that these artists or actors do more for humanity via charity than our entire families will do in our whole existence. So really, are we better than them?
Two same sex couples decide to be together and most people say let them be killed and other really nasty things, is that really worse than all that you have done in your lifetime? Who are they hurting exactly for being together? You? Your family? Your friends? I didn't think so.
Most people believe a ton of things are wrong without necessarily giving a concrete reason for why they believe so, even to themselves and I think it is sad.
I am not necessarily saying the afformentioned examples are right, i am just trying to share my thoughts with the world.
I believe a man should live by principles, that he decides not to do something is because he has a strong believe that that act would adversely affect some other human beign. It shouldn't be because he was told by a man that it is wrong or was born into a tribe that told him such and such was wrong for no valid reasons.
I'll leave with this bit to chew on, when the ignorance of a leader of a particular church/organization can adversely affect the mindset of the society. I was sitting in church one Sunday and the pastor preaching said that blackberry phones were the work of the devil. Imagine how many gullible members went back home with that mindset?
Think for yourself.
