Following the aversion of plane crash involving Kabo Air on Friday, October 5 2013, the pilot who was in charge of that flight has been suspended for disobeying Air Traffic Control to land its B747 in an alternate runway which resulted in damage to the aircraft and Instrumemt landing system (ILS) at Sokoto Airport.
The announcement was made by the Director-General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Fola Akinkuotu during an interactive session wit journalists on Tuesday, in Abuja.
The Kabo plane was conveying 512 passengers from Kano Airport, to Saudi Arabia with a stopover in Sokoto.
Leadership Newspapers reports:
The pilot did not comply with the directive given by air traffic controller on duty that the plane should land on runway 08 , but rather diverted to another runway.
The passengers on board who were on pilgrimage to Mecca were safely evacuated and subsequently transferred to another aircraft which took them to their destination.
The pilot also put at risk the lives of the passengers and crew on board.
