900 of the 2400 National Youth Service Corps members posted to Kano State in the Batch A of the 2012/2013 service year have asked to be redeployed to other states due to the current security situation in the commercial city.
A Channels TV report quoted the state coordinator of the NYSC, Salisu Yakassai as having disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the Batch A orientation camp exercise on Tuesday in Kano.
The corps members were redeployed due to the incessant bomb attacks in the state, the latest being an attack at an inter-state motor park last Monday that claimed at least 75 lives.
Most of the corps members expected to undergo their primary assignment in the state were initially reported to not have reported to the orientation camp.
The trauma of the motor park attack was said to have made fresh graduates to seek redeployment from the state.
According to Yakassai, the remaining 1,500 corps members would be posted to the rural areas of the state, which are considered safer.
Meanwhile, the state Deputy Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has promised corps members staying in the state that the state government would ensure the safety of the corps members in the state.
Apart from the attack on the bus park, nine riot policemen were also ambushed less than 24 hours after the bus park bombing, only escaping by the whiskers.
