Adamawa Prison attack: Deputy Comptroller killed, 127 inmates freed

The Nigerian Prison Service has confirmed the killing of the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Ganye Prison, Adamawa state, Baba Musa.

This disclosure was made by the Prison Comptroller in the state, Mr. Andrew Barka.

He said that a total of 127 prison inmates were freed in Friday's attack on the facility, adding that "We lost a deputy comptroller, Baba Musa, in the attack and some parts of the prison were also destroyed.''

Also on Sunday, the Police confirmed that 25 persons, including a policeman were killed in the attack.

Heavily armed gunmen had attacked the town on Friday evening for over two hours, using explosives, rocket launchers and machine guns on residents.



The Adamawa state Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Ibrahim, on Sunday in Yola said men of the command were overpowered by the bandits who arrived the border town with more sophisticated weapons.

"Thirteen places were attacked, including the Divisional Police Station, DPO's house, prison, beer palour, bank, library and courts," he said.

In the meantime, none of the attackers have been arrested.
