Oscar Pistorius Granted Bail

A magistrate granted bail Friday to Oscar Pistorius, citing a number of problems with the police investigation into the death of the Olympic sprinter's girlfriend.

"I come to the conclusion that the accused has made a case to be released on bail," said Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair, eliciting a celebratory cry of "Yes!" from the courtroom.

Pistorius remained quiet and reserved after the announcement and did not appear to celebrate. His family hugged quietly.

Nair said the former chief investigator in the case, Hilton Botha, had made "several errors and concessions" during his testimony during the bail hearing, and said prosecutors had failed to prove that Pistorius was a flight risk or had a propensity toward violence.

Botha has since been removed from the case after prosecutors reinstated attempted murder charges against him in a 2011 incident unrelated to Pistorius.

While recounting a litany of "improbabilities" in Pistorius' account of mistaking Steenkamp for an intruder, Nair said defense attorneys had met the threshold for proving the "exceptional circumstances" required by South African law for the release of a suspect charged with premeditated murder.

Pistorius will be released after posting bail of 1 million rand (about $114,000) by March 1, and 10% of it is due Friday. He may not return to the home where the shooting happened, Nair ruled.

He must give up his passport, can't go near an airport and must report to a police station every Monday and Friday, Nair said.

Pistorius is accused of premeditated murder in the February 14 shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp, 29. Authorities and Pistorius' team agree that he killed Steenkamp, but Pistorius says he mistook her for an intruder.

REVEALED: Why Wizkid Left EME To Float StarBoy Records

Facts have begun to emerge regarding the real story behind Wizkid and Banky's fallout. The reason is not unconnected with the rising sensational singer being made a cash cow for the EME label.

An Insider opened up that Wizzy (his nickname) is at war with Banky W and EME because he wants a contract review which Banky W has refused to grant him.

The source pointed out that since Ayodeji Balogun known as Wizkid signed with EME, he has been getting just 25% from whatever he gets paid to perform at an event with Banky W's Empire Mate Entertainment.

EME is owned by Banky W and Segun Demuren who get 50%; and Osagie, Wizzy's ex-manager who introduced him to Banky after big record labels like Mo-Hits and Storm records rejected him, also got 25% from his hard earned money.

"It is true they are having problems and this might just be the end of EME and Wizkid. When Wizzy signed his first (and last)contract with EME late in 2009, he saw Banky as his messiah because he was nobody in the music industry. It was a 75-25 sharing formula.

Then Wizkid didn't mind because he was bent on building his musical career. In his contract, Banky W promised to take care of his accommodation, feeding and also his school and based on this fact, Wizkid accepted all the terms of agreement. Later, Wizzy sacked his manager, Osagie replacing her with Godwin because he felt she was getting too much.

Wizkid was getting just 25% from every show because EME would take 50% while Osagie was taking 25%." Says an inside source.

Wizzy sacked Osagie because she was not ready to receive 10%, but it doesn't end there. He was also having problems with Osagie who refused to come to terms with the fact that he was no longer the boy she picked up 4 years ago and couldn't be bossed around.

The two had a bad falling out during which things deteriorated to the point where they began calling each other names. After the fight, he sacked Osagie.

This development did not go down well with Banky W but because Wizzy was close to the end of his contract with EME, he gave in. Osagie was replaced by Godwin, who works for EME, and still continued too get 25%. So till the expiration of the old contract, 75% was still going to EME, while Wizkid made do with 25%.

When Wizkid's contract expired late last year, he wanted a contract review requesting the 75-25 sharing formula be reviewed to 50-50 but Banky would not accept his proposal.

Banky wanted EME to provide a manager who would keep taking 25%, but Wiz insisted he wanted 50%, and that he would pay his manager out of his own pocket.

This issue had been dragging since September 2012 and that could have explained why Wizkid moved out of Banky's Ogudu GRA residence and got a new apartment in Lekki.

What got Wizzy miffed was that he was making all the money for EME and was getting less. Also, the money being made was being used to finance the project of other EME stars namely, Niyola, Skales and Shaydee.

Apparently Wizkid's international fame gave him more confidence to stand out on his own. Riding on this platform, he signed a management deal with Disturbing London, an international management company. Right now, his second Album is ready and features stars like Wale, Chris Brown, Tinie Tempar and others.

Another inside source also adds: "the last time Wizkid charged 1million for a show was about 3 years ago. Before his fracas with EME, he was charging nothing less than three million per show, and the fee for corporate shows was way higher.

In a week, Wiz was doing at least three shows, and raking in nothing less than 6million naira for EME on the average, totaling up to about 24 million naira per month. During festive periods, particularly Christmas, the amount he raked in was about triple that amount or more, and he charges even more for international shows.

Then there were endorsements, the biggest of which was the PEPSI deal for which he was paid a staggering sum of $365,000. Of all these, Wizkid was only getting 25%. "

The final straw was Banky's album launch recently. Wizkid was not invited for the show but he went all the same to show solidarity for his former label boss. Also, before the show, the contract review argument was still on ground and Wizkid was hoping the label would reconsider and take his offer. What he really wanted was 50%, out of which he would pay his manager, bodyguard, and mopol entourage, which he thought was reasonable.

However, during the show, Wiz was snubbed. The label refused to acknowledge his presence, and with this, the relationship with EME was severed. Wizkid is now operating under his own label STARBOY RECORDS.

So serious is the EME-Wizkid fallout that the label is now making people take sides. Sources say EME members no longer want to have anything to do with Wizkid and anyone that has any dealings with him.

Banky W may not have given his side of the story but insiders note that Banky has spent a lot to make Wizkid who he is now.

He feels Wizkid is not grateful and has forgotten where he was coming from. Sources say that Segun Demuren, Co-owner of EME has vowed to deal with Wiz-kid and make him regret ever leaving label.

With all said and done, here is wishing both parties all the best in their future endeavors.

Mother Charged To Court For Hiring Strippers For Her 16-Year Old’s Birthday Party

A mother was charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly hired strippers to perform at her 16-year-old son's birthday party, The Daily Freeman reported.

Judy H. Viger, 33, from Gansevoort, N.Y., which is north of Albany, paid for two 'female adult entertainers' to perform 'intimate dances' for birthday party attendees, which included five who were younger than 17, police told the paper.

Photos from the Nov. 3 party reportedly appeared online. At least one photo showed a woman clinging upside down to what was described as a seated teen, the report said. Police said several 'kids' at the party got lap dances, the report said.

The party appeared to be a large affair. The report said there were 80 adults and teens at the event, which was located at Spare Time Bowling Center. The floor-to-ceiling windows were reportedly covered with brown paper.

Spare Time issued a statement that said it is cooperating with the investigation and did not pay for the entertainment at the private party.

The dancers were from a company called Tops in Bottoms. The owner told FoxNews.com that the woman paid for a 'bikinigram' and insisted there was no nudity.

"I think you get a lot worse stuff on TV or at the beach," Nathan Rice, the owner, said. "There's no sense in ruining someone's reputation over this."

Although Rice was sympathetic to Viger, he said the mom should have notified the five underage kids' parents.

"There were a lot of adults there and no one thought it got too out of control," he said.

Viger's next court date is on March 7. She perviously told The Post-Star the dancers were not strippers and there to deliver the 'bikinigram' and sing happy birthday.

Ghanian Actress, Juliet Ibrahim Adds Voice to Criticisms of Kim Kardashian Visit to Darey's Show

Popular Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim has added her voice to the chorus of those commenting on US TV reality star Kim Kardashian's recent trip to Nigeria…

She says she doesn't see why top Nigerian R&B singer Darey would 'pay so much money and fly Kim K down to Nigeria just for a 45 seconds intro' on his Love Like a Movie concert, which held on Sunday, February 17, 2013.

Speaking (more like venting) on her Instagram page, the pretty actress said that Darey could have flown her in from Ghana and she would have 'represented.'

'Ok here's my 2cents! Been reading comments about Darey's concert and to be honest I don't see why he will pay so much money and fly Kim k down to naija just for a 45sec intro on his show, like seriously! Bro, u could hv flown me from Gh and I would have represented! What did Kim k do for the 45 secs ? She stood and told a senseless story, I could have stood and told a sensible story about ghana on a Nigerian stage!', she wrote.

She also went on to say that African show promoters should shun foreign entertainers and focus on working with more African talents.

'Lol no hard feelings but its about time we start appreciating our very own African talents then paying all these foreigners so much for 45seconds performances. Check me out, way hotter than some of them peeps una Dey pay big bucks for nothing better. #wordofadvice #momentoftruth' But those close to the organisers say Kim K's visit actually went how it should. The reality TV star, according to the show's producers, Soul Muzik, and a TV drop by Kim Kardashian herself, was to be special guest at a dinner with 'platinum VIP guests', co-host the LLAM red carpet session and open the show. We're told she also did media rounds, sitting for at least two exclusive interviews, including this one with Beat FM's Gbemi.

Despite all the drama, Darey's 'Love Like a Movie' concert is being adjudged as one of Nigeria's best events ever. And it doesn't seem Darey and his label are considering responding to all the speculation about how much she was paid, or indeed, how much the big-budget concert gulped in total.

Darey tweeted this morning: 'Can't even keep up with all these theories again! Which one is LASG paid dat insane amount for her? Fallacy…like everything else u hrd lol'.

You've seen the pictures guys, who do you think is hotter and prettier?

Ice-Prince Now Dating Yvonne Nelson

Okay now I know why designer Yvonne Nwosu dumped her boo, rapper Iceprince. Iceprince is now dating ex-girlfriend Yvonne Nelson. Yes, I said ex-girlfriend! Y'all didn't know this and I wasn't going to say anything but since they are kinda stepping out together again, then let me spill...:-). Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson dated Iceprince sometime last year before ending things with him to date Iyanya.

Iceprince later met and started dating designer Yvonne Nwosu. Yvonne Nwosu declared today on her Twitter account that she is single again. A source told me it has something to do with Iceprince's rekindled love affair with Yvonne Nelson after starring in one of her movies recently.

Yvonne Nelson and Iceprince were spotted together at celebrity stylist Nancy's birthday party at her home in Lekki on Saturday February 16th. Karen Igho and Tonto Dikeh were also at the private bash. Yvonne Nelson and Iceprince, who came together and left together, couldn't keep their hands off each other according to my paparazzi who was also at the party.

Pope Benedict to earn $3,340 Retirement Benefit Per Month

Pope Benedict XVI who announced his resignation from office with effect from February 28  will be paid a pension of 2,500 euros a month, or about $3,340 according to several Italian media outlets, which quoted the amount of the pension usually paid to bishops.

The head of the Catholic Church does not officially have an income and doesn't really get paid, the Vatican has said repeatedly in response to inquiries from the press over the years, adding that "he has his every need provided for by the Holy See".

The Italian press however said, "but we know what Benedict will make once he relinquishes the papacy on Feb. 28. He will be paid a pension of 2,500 euros a month, or about $3,340.

There is no precedent for a papal pension. The last one to resign was in 1415; everybody else died in office but there are cases of retired bishops, and the pope is officially also the bishop of Rome.

The Vatican press office did not confirm the amount, but a spokesperson said that the pope's needs, as well as those of whatever staff he might choose to retain in the Vatican monastery he is retiring to, "will be met."

*Pope Benedict XVI
The 86-year-old Joseph Ratzinger plans to live out his days in prayer and meditation at the Mater Ecclesiae monastery. But first, he will spend the initial months after his abdication at the Castel Gandolfo papal residence, outside of Rome, as the monastery undergoes renewals.

He will not bring much with him from his eight years as pope, except for some books, letters, his piano and personal objects, according to a report by Italian site TGcom. His vast library and notes will be kept in the Vatican but will not be available to the public. Ratzinger himself will need to make a formal request with the Vatican library in order to consult them.

As for what the pope will do in the final days of his pontificate, they are going to be a preview of the rest of his life. The Vatican said he plans to spend most of this week in meditation, until Saturday, accompanied by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, a department that focuses on fostering the relationship of the Catholic Church with different cultures.

Pope's resignation deepens doubt, despondency for Italians

Meanwhile nine days after the Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation from office, over his failing health, controversy had continued to trail the event.

Pope Benedict's shock resignation is said to have robbed Italians of the one element of certainty in a time of deep doubt, with the country beset by graft scandals and heading for an election that will not bring the radical change so many crave.

The pontiff is believed to be the one stable element for Roman Catholic Italians in a modern state that has become a byword for political instability and flawed politicians. All that changed since Benedict announced he would be the first pontiff in 700 years to resign, causing alarm and despondency among many faithful in a country whose history has been shaped by the presence of the headquarters of the Church for 2,000 years.

"We are in a moment of social, ideological and cultural crisis and in a moment like that it is completely wrong for him to leave," said Emanuele Vitale, 22, a Sicilian student who joined around 100,000 people packed into St. Peter's Square on Sunday for one of Benedict's last appearances before his resignation on February 28.

Another person in the square, pensioner Antonio Mingrone, 68, said: "It is unsettling. At a time when there are all these political conflicts and an economic crisis, it is one more thing weighing on our minds."

Outgoing Prime Minister Mario Monti, himself a devout Catholic, referred to the "disorientation" of Italians over the pope's decision. "It seems like an epoch is changing on both sides of the Tiber and we feel robbed of points of reference."

Massimo Franco, a leading Italian political commentator and author of several books on the Vatican, told Reuters: "The resignation adds instability to instability. The Church which was a source of stability is now a major source of instability.

"Today the Vatican is a sort of mirror of Italy," Franco said. "Before, it was the opposite. Now there is a chaotic Italy and chaotic Vatican."

Italians will vote next Sunday and Monday in an election whose outcome is still unpredictable at a time when the country desperately needs firm and decisive government to address a major recession, stagnant growth and soaring unemployment.

Tunisia's Prime Minister Resigns Amid Turmoil

(CNN) - Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali resigned Tuesday, Tunisian state TV said, the latest development in a nation wracked by political unrest.

He submitted his resignation after the failure of his initiative to form a technocratic government, state TV reported. Jebali told CNN last week he'd step down if the effort was not approved.

He said during a Monday press conference that he was meeting with President Moncef Marzouki to "discuss with him all the possibilities," later adding that he might consider being appointed again under certain circumstances. Jebali did not elaborate.

It's possible that his ruling Muslim Brotherhood-linked Ennahda party will reappoint him to form another government or choose another politician to do the task.

The move comes amid many turbulent days following the February 6 assassination of Chokri Belaid, a prominent secular politician in the North African country.

No one has claimed responsibility for his murder, but Belaid's widow and others blamed the climate fostered by the Ennahda party.

Thousands of Tunisians demonstrated in the streets of the capital, outraged over the assassination, and called on Jebali to resign.

The killing of Belaid was the country's first high-profile political assassination since Tunisia's "Jasmine Revolution" that toppled President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali two years ago and spawned the Arab Spring.

Nigerian movie, 'Dr Bello', to debut in U.S theatres

A Nollywood movie titled `Dr Bello’ will be making history as the first Nigerian movie to debut in the U.S. theatres on February 22, its producer, Mr Tony Abulu, has said.
The movie, according to Abulu, would be released in the U.S. theatres from February 22 to 27.
He said the movie, worth N150 million, would explore the foreign exchange potentials that abound in the U.S. film industry.
The development, according to Abulu, will also create a platform for other Nigerian movies to sell in the U.S. market.
"This is the second largest theatre chain in America with over 5000 screens and this portends great opportunity for Nigeria, because apart from ``Dr Bello'' other movies can come through this same agreement.
"The only catch is that they have to be very well produced and they have to be targeted to an American audience, not all the Nigerian movies can do it; there will be a select group of Nigerian movies that can come through that channel.
"But I think, as time goes on, we can begin to see the millions of dollars of foreign exchange revenue that we have been hoping for from a place like the U.S.’’
Abulu praised the performance of the Nigerian film industry in projecting the image of the country overseas, adding that the quality of movies currently produced in the country were encouraging.

Explosion rocks Lagos, kills one

ONE  person was,  on Monday morning,  killed and another injured as an improvised explosive device exploded under the New Bridge between Awuwo Odofin and FESTAC Town in Lagos State.

The incident, which reportedly occurred around 11.00 a.m, created serious among residents of the river bank and Amuwo Odofin community, following the devastating effect of the explosion.

The deceased was identified as Pius Oladele, popularly known as “Apase,” leader of the Association of Sand Dredgers under the bridge, while the injured victim had been identified as a police inspector.

Angry workers around the area had, immediately after the explosion, descended on the police inspector, accussing him of being responsible for the blast, which tore Apase’s body into pieces.

An assessment of the call log on the injured  policeman’s mobile phone number  revealed that he had, at about an hour  before the incident, had a conversation with the deceased, whom he claimed gave him N5,000.
